Pamela Awiti lost her job as a domestic worker during the COVID-19 pandemic. This greatly affected her as she was the bread winner of her family. She reported the matter to the Union to which the case is still on. During those difficult moments, the union stepped up to support the domestic workers by providing them with food stuff, and protective gears, like masks and sanitizers. The union has also been trainings them, on their labour rights, work etiquette and self-protection practices at the work place. Currently, she has a job with better terms and conditions as she was able to bargain with her employer through the knowledge gained from the union. She has been a domestic worker and a member of KUDHEIHA workers since 2004. She is also a leader representing Lang’ata area in Nairobi.
